Calls for new system to get fresh food into remote communities

Interview with Nova Peris and ABC RN Breakfast presenter Fran Kelly.

A parliamentary inquiry into food pricing and food security in remote Indigenous communities has wrapped up this week, with calls for a new national strategy for food security and nutrition for remote communities.

The probe was launched in May after reports of inflated prices in some communities, including jars of coffee being sold for $55.
The reasons for high prices were explained during the inquiry, with poor infrastructure, seasonal stresses and high costs of running remote stores highlighted.
