Our impact

With greenhouses now in 64 schools, 14,200 children across Australia have participated in growing over 135,600 servings of vegetables through our program to date. By 2030 we plan to be supporting more than 1 million students in growing their own food, and directly contributing to 25+ million meals.

Hilltop Road Public School: Making Headlines

When Hilltop Road Public School’s Food Ladder greenhouse made the morning news, it wasn’t just a feel-good story — it was proof of a community transformed. Students who once had limited access to fresh produce are now growing, harvesting, and cooking their own food, while test scores in science and literacy climb. The national spotlight captured what teachers already knew: hands-on learning changes everything.

Prospect North: Wisdom blooms

In the words of a 5-year-old Prospect girl; “We are going to grow food, and there will be less rubbish, and it will taste better.” She was right. Now she, and her young schoolmates, fully understand why food they grow tastes so good and is good for them. They know all the environmental and health benefits, thanks to the Food Ladder greenhouse.

Ungarra: Impact beyond the school gate

Before Food Ladder arrived in Ungarra, only 20% of households had a home garden. Now it’s over 90%. Driven by their children, families have embraced newfound knowledge, skills, and passion for growing and cooking. We even saw one young child, Kai, stretch his love of growing into self-education and literacy improvements.
